Electrical Panels
We have replaced electrical panels in Houston homes since 2007. Our electricians handle 200 amp upgrades and overhead to underground conversions.
Tankless water heater installation in Houston covers two jobs. One is switching a gas or electric tank to a tankless unit. The other is replacing an old tankless unit with a new one. Master plumbers on our team size each unit for your house. On a gas unit, they also check the gas line and put in new venting. If a new tank suits your house better, we handle tank water heater replacement too.
VCS Construction and Remodeling has been contracting in Houston since 2007. Our electricians check the panel when the new unit is electric. Our own crew handles the drywall and paint work that plumbing-only companies leave behind. We install tankless water heaters across Harris County, in places like Montrose, Houston Heights, River Oaks and Bellaire. Estimates are free, and we set a date after the estimate.

A tankless water heater heats water as it flows, with no tank to keep hot. HomeGuide says a built-in flow sensor starts a gas burner or electric coils when you open a hot tap. When the tap closes, the unit stops heating the water. HomeAdvisor says that with no tank to corrode, the risk of leaks and water damage drops. That counts most when the heater sits in an attic, above a ceiling. It also takes less space than a tank, HomeAdvisor notes.
HomeAdvisor says on-demand heating avoids the energy a tank wastes keeping water hot. It puts the efficiency gain at 24% to 34%. That range is for homes using up to 41 gallons of hot water a day. Angi says the gain is closer to 8% in households that use a lot of hot water. The trade-off is the install: Angi says first-time installations cost more than replacements, because of added electrical work and piping.
HomeGuide says smaller units may not supply enough hot water at one time. A shower can turn lukewarm when the washer starts, so sizing comes first. Our master plumbers add up the flow rate, in gallons per minute (GPM), of the fixtures that run at once. Angi lists a conventional shower head at 4 to 6 GPM and an eco-friendly one at 2 to 3 GPM. A washing machine adds 2 to 2.5 GPM, and HomeAdvisor says to count each shower separately.
The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey shows the age of Houston's housing. Nearly half of the city's homes and apartments were built in 1979 or earlier. In many of those houses, the gas line and vent were sized for a tank. HomeGuide says gas units cost more to install because of the need for new gas lines and venting. Many conversions need a larger gas line, which HomeGuide puts at $350 to $2,000. Our master plumbers check the gas line and run a larger one when the unit needs it.
Gas tankless water heater installation also means new venting. HomeGuide says the old tank gas vent cannot be reused, and puts new exhaust vents at $100 to $600. A condensing unit uses a second heat exchanger to capture more heat from the exhaust. HomeGuide says it needs special venting such as PVC plus a condensation drain, which our master plumbers add. Non-condensing units cost about 25% less to install, HomeGuide says, but they send more heat out the vent.
The new unit can hang where the old tank stood, such as the attic or the garage. A gas unit can also go outside, and HomeGuide shows one installed outdoors. HomeAdvisor says many homes must be adapted for a tankless system, which can mean new piping and possibly drywall work. When the unit moves, our own crew closes in the old tank closet and patches what the job opens. Angi says moving a water heater to a new location drives up installation costs. If bathroom remodeling already has the walls open, the move fits into that job.
Our master plumbers add service valves so the unit can be flushed later. Inside the City of Houston, every tankless water heater installation or replacement needs a plumbing permit. The Houston Permitting Center says no plan review is needed for a water heater at a single-family home. Master plumbers on our team pull that permit, and we meet the inspector on the job. Bellaire, West University Place, Pearland and the Memorial Villages run their own permit offices.
Which type fits depends on the house and how much hot water it uses at once. HomeGuide says gas units have a higher maximum flow rate, which makes them better for larger homes. HomeAdvisor puts the upper limit for electric models around 8 GPM, and says some natural gas models reach 20 GPM. HomeGuide puts a gas tankless water heater at $2,100 to $5,600 for the unit, labor and required modifications. It puts an electric unit at $1,400 to $3,000 installed, and calls electric cheaper and easier to install.
An electric unit needs no gas line, and Angi says electric water heaters don't require added ventilation. Power is the catch. An expert quoted by HomeAdvisor says a whole-house electric unit needs 240-volt, 80-amp hard-wired service at a minimum. The home then needs at least 150-amp service, so our electricians check the panel first. HomeGuide says a higher-capacity panel may be necessary and puts replacing the panel at $850 to $1,700. When it is needed, we handle the electrical panel replacement too.
Old supply lines can change the plan too. Angi says an install can take more work when old pipes require cleaning or replacement. If the house is due for whole-house repiping, the new lines and tankless unit can go in together. Master plumbers on our team handle both, and our own crew patches the walls and ceilings after. VCS did an outstanding job on our kitchen and master bed/bath remodel. What made them different was their attention to detail from start to finish. Trey would meet with us on a weekly basis to review completed work as well as scheduling and work for the following week. His team was extremely professional, knowledgable, and courteous. They went above and beyond for us and the quality of work was fantastic. They focused and kept to the scheduled timeline. I would highly recommend VCS Construction and Remodeling.
