Custom Bathroom Remodeling for Houston Homes, Old and New

VCS Construction has done bathroom remodeling in Houston since 2007. Trey Seiter brings over 20 years of hands-on experience to every bath we build. Some are simple tub-to-shower conversions. Others are full master bathroom remodels with marble tile and freestanding tubs.

Our team includes master plumbers, so drain moves and fixture swaps stay in house. Our own crew hangs sheetrock, sets tile, installs cabinets, and paints. We work about 15 to 20 miles around downtown Houston, inside Loop 610 and out. That covers the Heights, Montrose, River Oaks, and nearby areas.

One Contractor for the Whole Bathroom Remodel

A bathroom renovation touches almost every trade. Plumbing, tile, sheetrock, and paint all happen in one small room. We keep all of it under one contractor. You call Trey, and the same team is there from demo day to the final coat of paint.

Plumbing is where bathroom remodels go wrong. We have master plumbers on the team, so moving a drain or relocating a toilet is normal work here. The City of Houston requires permits when plumbing or wiring changes, and we pull them. Rough work gets inspected before a single tile goes on the wall.

The finish work stays in house too. We set marble and cement tile in a historic Houston bungalow, around a freestanding tub. Frameless glass shower installs are regular work for our crew. Sheetrock, cabinets, trim, and paint get the same care as the tile.

Houston's humidity is hard on bathrooms. A bath without good venting holds moisture, and moisture ruins paint and grout. We size the exhaust fan for the room and duct it all the way outside. Waterproofing goes behind every shower wall before tile.

What Drives Bathroom Remodel Cost and Timeline in Houston

The biggest cost factor is whether your fixtures move. If the toilet, sink, tub, and shower stay put, plumbing costs stay low. Move them, and our plumbers open walls or floors to reroute drain and supply lines. That is real work, and it belongs in the budget from day one.

The age of your house matters too. Many Houston homes built in the 1950s and 60s have cast iron drain lines under the slab. Cast iron lasts about 50 to 75 years, so those lines are in the failure window now. When a remodel opens the floor, we check those drains before new tile locks them in.

Materials set the rest of the budget. Ceramic tile costs less than marble or cement tile, and a stock vanity costs less than custom cabinets. Custom frameless glass gets measured after the tile is done, which adds time near the end. Permits and inspections add days to the schedule, and we build that in.

Every bathroom is different, so we look before we quote. Estimates and design consultations are free. Trey checks the room and the plumbing, then prices the job for your house.

Where We Remodel Bathrooms in Houston

We take bathroom remodels within about 15 to 20 miles of downtown Houston. That means inside Loop 610 and out. The Heights, Montrose, River Oaks, and the areas between them are home turf. If you are close to the Loop in any direction, call and ask.

Much of our work is in older houses. The Heights was planned in the 1890s, and many of its bungalows still have one small original bathroom. Those houses sit on pier and beam foundations, which gives our plumbers crawl space access. That access makes a drain move simpler than it would be on a slab.

The jobs range widely. In one historic bungalow, we built marble and cement tile bathrooms around freestanding tubs. In a 120 year old house, we rebuilt a bath for a rehabilitation nonprofit's residents. That bathroom got a curbless walk-in shower, grab bars, a teak bench, and a floating vanity.

FAQ

Bathroom Remodeling Questions, Answered

Common questions about bathroom remodeling across Houston, inside Loop 610 and out. Don't see yours? Give us a call and ask.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Houston?
It depends on the scope. Cosmetic work like paint, tile, cabinets, and countertops does not need a permit. Moving plumbing or changing wiring does, and those permits come from the Houston Permitting Center. We pull the permits and schedule the inspections as part of the job.
How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Houston?
There is no one number, because layout changes and finishes drive the price. Angi's Houston cost guide puts the local average near $12,800, with most projects between about $6,900 and $18,700. Keeping fixtures where they are keeps the price down. Moving drains, or choosing marble over ceramic, moves it up. A free estimate gives you a real number for your house.
Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes, we do tub-to-shower conversions across Houston. Our master plumbers move the drain, and our crew waterproofs and tiles the new shower. Frameless glass is an option if you want an open look. We can also build the shower curbless, which helps anyone who has trouble stepping over a tub wall.
Do you build ADA and accessible bathrooms?
Yes. We rebuilt a bathroom in a 120 year old Houston house for a rehabilitation nonprofit. It has a curbless walk-in shower, grab bars, a teak bench, and a floating vanity with a vessel sink. The vanity floats so a wheelchair rolls right up to the sink. We can build the same features into your home.
My house was built in the 1950s. Does that change the remodel?
It changes what we check first. Houston homes from that era often have cast iron drain lines under the slab. Cast iron lasts about 50 to 75 years. Before new tile goes down, our master plumbers check the drains the bathroom uses. Finding a bad line during the remodel beats cutting into a new floor later.
